Architecturally inspired systems for superior style and performance

When it comes to development, today’s property owners are increasingly focussed on technology, architectural excellence, the community and the surrounding urban landscape. This stunning Brighton development is very much a reflection of the times. The owners embraced all these considerations and more to achieve their goal of building an avant-garde, cutting edge, high-tech home that combines the technological advances of the new millennium with absolute sophistication. The result? A lifestyle experience like no other.

These two magnificent double-storey private residences are located in Brighton, one of Melbourne’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. Designed by Melbourne-based architect, Adam Dettrick, each residence comprises 38 squares of living area, and boasts the most beautiful appointments on the market, and state-of-the-art, wow-factor appliances. Just a short stroll to the colourful bathing boxes that line the nearby beach, and a stone’s throw from Church Street’s glamorous boutiques and eateries, the owners wanted a showpiece result that utilised glass and open space to create an indoor-outdoor environment of the highest calibre.

To achieve maximum flow between the interior and exterior environments, the architect incorporated a variety of glazing systems across the project, including single glazing, double glazing and spandrel panels. The effect is one of soaring space and gravity-defying, light-filled rooms. In order to cement this feeling of height and space, many of the windows extend all the way from the ground to the second-floor apex.

The owners were looking for excellence in design and flexibility with superior performance. Elevate™ Aluminium Systems were the natural choice for high quality, commercial grade windows and commercial doors. Series 424 Double Glazed CentreGLAZE™ Framing was selected for the project, this system offers a clean, architecturally styled high performance framing solution which accommodates hinged and awning sashes. Double glazed awning inserts were used throughout the second story, offering excellent ventilation and functionality. Series 424 Double Glazed hinged doors and 704 SlideMASTER sliding doors were integrated seamlessly to provide access to the outdoors.

The houses’ proximity to the beach could not be overlooked, ICON™ Stainless Steel hardware was utilised throughout the project, providing a corrosion-resistant alternative capable of withstanding the harsh coastal environment.

Glazing constituted a major element of the project, emphasising the need to engage a highly skilled fabrication and installation team. The client selected his fabricator with care. Builder, Ian Johnson, of Zikon Construction, recommended All Weather Windows. A well-known and established window and door fabrication business, All Weather Windows is a family owned company with over 40 years’ experience in the manufacture of aluminium windows and doors.

All parties appear delighted with the result and, with one of the residences already sold, the outcome speaks for itself. The remaining home is garnering significant and well-deserved interest from a market clamouring for undeniable quality, forward-thinking design, and sympathy for the wider environment.
