Hamilton House

Hamilton House, located in Yandina Creek, Queensland, is a two-level concrete and glass home spanning an incredible 1300m2. Reminiscent of a Roman pallazzo, it is a house to take your breath away.

The brief was to create a large 21st-century home with the aesthetics and volumes of a Public Art Gallery. Sustainability was a key consideration for the project, as was balancing the impact of an ultra-modern dwelling with its idyllic rural surrounds. Designed by MahawaDesign and built by ProTilt, the home was constructed in exactly nine months using precast concrete custom panels. The home soars to a height of 10.5m, and boasts five luxurious bedrooms, 3.5m-high ceilings, a magnificent 20m-long entry bridge, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a media room, a library, a nine-metre lap pool, and a vast marble staircase rising to nine metres in height. Moveable walls of glass open up the entire enormous formal living room to the outside – combining four ‘supersize’ bifolds, eight bifolds, and a four stacker unit.

The project presented a number of challenges, not least of which were due to the extremely large openings - some 9m in length x 3m in height - and differing door arrangements. Fabricator, Lifestyle Windows, based in Coolum, Queensland, had its work cut out for it.
