Architecturally inspired systems for superior style and performance

A multi-million dollar view is there to be enjoyed. That’s certainly the opinion of the owners of this stunning Longueville property on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.

Located on a peninsular between Tambourine and Woodford Bays, the suburb is home to many well-known Australians and boasts some of Sydney’s most spectactular views. Is it any wonder that the owners of this exceptional property wanted to take maximum advantage of the fantastic vista across the Lane Cove river to the city skyline and the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge? Understandably, they also wanted to maintain the seclusion and privacy of the home.

Andrew Tzannes of Habitation Architecture was called in to design the project, while Walkercorp, a leading developer of residential, retail, commercial and industrial sites, handled the build.

To make the most of the impressive views, large expanses of glass and dramatic, wide-opening window systems were incorporated throughout the project. The owners, who work in the building industry, were keen proponents of “sleek, modern window systems, classy hardware and ease of operation, with minimal maintenance in the future”.

The extensive use of glass throughout the project presented some unique design considerations when it came to maintaining both the functional aspects of the home and the flexibility of the living environment. In addition, a multitude of high windows called for electronic opening systems to ensure ease of operation and hassle-free ventilation. Other concerns included the need for sleek aluminium window and door profiles which impacted the views as little as possible while staying true to the design and maintaining structural integrity.

The team at Evolution Window Systems was called in to help. Evolution Window Systems has supplied and installed windows and doors to Walkercorp projects for over a decade, and has built a strong working relationship with the developer.

The Evolution team recommended the use of Elevate™ Window and Door systems. The Elevate™ range offers commecial-grade aluminium windows and doors which delivered the strength, aesthetics and integrity demanded by the project.

Aluminium windows and doors are ideal for use in coastal applications requiring minimal maintenance and upkeep. They deliver good looks and functional operation which stand the test of time in even the harshest environment.

The building now boasts Series 50 Multi-stacking Doors – these clever 3m high stacking-door panels fold back flush with each other and open the living areas up to Sydney’s breathtaking beauty. The owners were delighted that their views were not absorbed by large chunks of aluminium, and surprised at how easy it was to slide the massive panels of 10.38mm glazing.

To solve the problem of accessibility to high windows, Series 466 Awning Windows with electric winders were installed. Series 400 CentreGLAZE™ framing was seamlessly coupled with hinged doors, while sashless windows inserts were used on the Series 400 frames to provide trouble-free ventilation without masking the dramatic harbour views. All parties are extremely happy with the results. All that’s left to do now is sit back and drink in the scenery.
