Nestled in the inner city of Sydney, the owners of this old heritage home wanted to add another level and an extension to achieve a modern look but not lose the heritage aspect from the inside. 

The street-facing façade retains its historic image while the new extension adds a lively dialogue to the story of the home.  

The building’s material palette is based on luxury and purity. The white pillars next to the soft-tone timber deck and swimming pool, teamed with the sliding cavity door, whispers a sense of calmness. 

An open space from the lounge to the alfresco area and pool is a definite feature of the home. The Designer Series 618 MAGNUM™ sliding cavity door was used to reveal and showcase the open area to the exterior. The space is playful and an entertainer’s dream. The architect has been poetic in their design where an old heritage home flows to a more modern feel out the back. 

Elevate Series 456 commercial awning was used with electric winders in the void area to let hot air escape. With a high water resistance of 450Pa, it has very low infiltration making this product suitable for air-conditioned buildings. Electric winders can be integrated with in- home automation systems to allow windows to automatically vent based on temperature for passive home cooling.

Awning windows are a smart choice when designing a home as they can be left open when it rains and allow a constant control and movement of air in and out of the home. Also, window flyscreens were fitted behind awning sashes with winders.
