Australia's Leading Range of Thermally Broken Aluminium Windows and Doors

Bi-Fold Doors That Allow Accessibility

The brief for this Aged Care Residential Facility was clear and precise- create a residential facility second to none in it's class with state of the art facilities. It also required an environment for it's residents that is contemporary, welcoming and open.

When Uniting Care Ageing approached Graham P Murray Architects to design their new aged care facility, architects found that sourcing stylish and accessibly friendly materials was a daunting task. To fulfill the brief of 'welcoming and open', architects saw the external environment as a key element to the design, and wanted to create open plan living and a connection to outdoor living spaces to give residents the freedom they need.

The architects required a high quality, durable and modern aluminium window and door system that provided accessible options for residents in wheelchairs. The Elevate™ window and door systems allowed the architects to use large spans of glazing to maximise the impact of the carefully landscaped gardens.

On the lower levels, large Series 411 bi-fold doors were used to ensure a sense of freedom of the residents. As this bi-fold is custom made, it was able to be utilised for the large openings throughout the project. As the Elevate™ bi-fold door is supported at the head, the load is supported from above and a flush sill can be achieved at the threshold which is ideal for applications such as this, where accessibility is a consideration.
