Ahoy! Is it a boat? Is it a ship? No, it’s a house!

Situated on the canal’s edge in Paynesville Victoria and on the Gippsland lakes, the largest inland network of waterways in Australia, stands a spectacular home, Driftwood Close.

Located at a junction of two arms of the system and within eyeshot of the lake and lake mouth, the owner of this unique home wanted to capture a view of the water from every window in the house.

The Vantage range of high performance windows and doors were selected for this project. The MAGNUM™ range, which incorporates a 102mm frame profile, allows for larger window sizes to maximise the views. LEGG Windows & Doors were chosen because they solved the onerous problem of not using commercial frames in a domestic application to achieve the large windows the owner/designer wanted.

With an unencumbered approach to architecture and the belief that design is an opportunity to tell a story, the stunning Driftwood Close does just that. A modern open plan design with a white and grey exterior, a sense of calmness and wellbeing complements the lake. By staying true to his initial idea of capturing the view, a total of 37 Vantage windows and doors were used assuring plenty of natural light while making the living spaces bright and inviting. Energy efficiency was a major factor for the owner; all the windows have energy efficient glass with the majority of them being double glazed.

The Series 616 awning and casement windows have been tested for compliance with the relevant Australian Standards and achieved a very high water resistance of 1000Pa.

DStacker™ sliding doors were used to connect the indoor and outdoor living areas, a feature which is becoming increasingly popular. With a flush sill, there is a smooth path between both areas.
