One of the directors was very adamant that he wanted as much light coming through as possible

Retire in style. This retirement lifestyle living village has 141 fully operating apartments, a leisure centre complete with a restaurant, cinema, hairdresser, library, bowling green, outside BBQ area and an indoor pool and spa. Located in leafy Fullarton, South Australia, this oeuvre will make you want to retire. Now.

The client, from Living Choice Australia Retirement Villages, has AWS products in his own home which AWS fabricator Packers completed a few years ago. The client wanted to bring the same quality of product to the retirement village so brought on board AWS products and fabricator, Packers.

Living Choice Australia wanted the building to be Adelaide’s finest retirement village. It oozes a sense of comfortable and luxurious living.

AWS products were chosen because they solved a few concerns. The client wanted a sliding door with a non-profiled sill (square flat sill). The Vantage® Series 618 MAGNUM™ sliding door allows for a flush sill. This is imperative when designing for the elderly or disabled. It contributes to ease of access and helps to eliminate trips and falls.

The client also wanted the flyscreens on the sliding doors to slide internally. This feature was desired to ensure the longevity of the flyscreen by protecting them from the weather. This proved another reason why the Vantage® Series 618 MAGNUM™ sliding door was the ideal choice.

With a request from Packers, AWS went away and redesigned the MAGNUM™ door to get the screens to slide internally and not compromise the performance of the door. At AWS we try to accommodate any situation and hurdle whilst maintaining the performance and efficiency of our products.

Other products used include the Elevate™ Series 400 commercial framing with a flush glazed sash, Series 50 commercial sliding door and Series 462 architectural sliding window.

Elevate™ Series 400 commercial framing with a flush glazed sash was used so that large panels could allow natural light to shine into the communal living room.

At the time, ASSA Abloy had a brand new chain winder. Over 300 elevation electric chain winders were used in the project. The client was impressed by how nicely concealed the winders were in the purpose designed winder box.

Not only did Packers supply and install the windows and doors for the retirement village, they supplied and installed the shower screens, mirrors and robes. Liaising with the one business for a handful of design elements provides structure and order to the entire process.
