Contemporary Aluminium Windows and Doors for your lifestyle

This modern rural home in Parma, NSW, is an outstanding example of beautiful workmanship combined with high-quality windows and doors. Designed by BHI Architects and built by Craig Moffat - Moffat Builders, it uses large amounts of glazing to connect with the stunning outlook.

Winner of the 2011 MBA Contract Home $1M-$2M Category, the judges described the home as a truly outstanding example of quality workmanship. The project was designed to focus on energy-saving through careful selection of glazing as well as the incorporation of external shading. Natural cross-ventilation was achieved with glazing to the north to capture breezes through a variety of window and door configurations.

The BASIX report required the use of high-performance glass to reduce the amount of Solar Heat Gain from the hot summer sun, and a Low E coating to achieve better insulation in the cooler months. Hanlon Windows specified a combination of AWS and Vantage products with Viridian 19mm IGUs with ComfortPLUS Green and, in the Elevate™ Series 400 louvre windows, 6mm EVantage SuperGreen. Combined with Vantage Series 542 Sliding Doors, it was the perfect solution and exceeded the levels required to pass the thermal efficiency section of BASIX. The Elevate™ Architectural Series is also able to achieve exceptional weather and strength performance - extremely important for this rural project, as it is located in an exposed area, open to the elements. The Elevate™ Series 466 Awning windows heighten ventilation and afford a measure of protection from unexpected passing showers, while the shape of the Elevate™ Architectural Series products reflect the designer’s preference for clean, flush surfaces, continuous sightlines and square-edge forms. AWS Silver Grey Powder Coat in Matt Finish was selected on the aluminium windows and doors.

The tough thermosetting powder coating supplied on this project exhibits decorative and durable characteristics suitable for architectural aluminium extrusions where excellent overall performance is required. Connecting with the stunning rural views was an important part of the design process and the use of large sliding doors and louvre windows from Hanlon Windows helped achieve this. The client and builder were both delighted with the result. A variety of Elevate™ Aluminium Systems and Vantage Residential window and door systems were used throughout the project, including Elevate™ Series 462 Sliding Windows, Series 466 Awning Windows, Series 400 Louvre Windows, and Series 400 CentreGLAZE framing. Along with Vantage Series 549 Hinged Entry Doors, and Series 542 D Stacker Sliding Doors, all joinery was finished in AWS Silver Grey Powder coat finish.

AWS proprietary ANDO™ hardware was used throughout. All glass was selected to maximise the energy efficiency of the home and create a comfortable living space. Glass was selected based on orientation, the project calling for a combination of Viridian 19mm Insulated Glass Units (6.38mm ComfortPLUS Green/6mm Air/6mm Clear), 6.38mm ComfortPLUS Green, and 10.38mm ComfortPLUS Green.
