Our Lady Of The Angels

Located in the thriving suburb of Kellyville, in Sydney’s north-western suburbs, the primary school is designed with colour, fun and educational excellence in mind. The new build focussed on creating state-of-the-art shading and airflow, a seamless connection between internal and external spaces, and exceptional energy efficiency.

The brief included the need for flexible rooms and spaces that could be changed according to curricular demands, as well as a range of strict lighting, acoustic, ventilation and heating specifications. To meet the brief, the architect and builder required high-quality windows and doors that combined architectural beauty, strength, and the ability to withstand weather extremes. After extensive product research, the team at Hanlon Windows was engaged to supply the world-renowned AWS range of windows and doors.

AWS ELEVATE Series 410 Bi-fold doors were selected, allowing whole rooms to open up to outdoor play areas, while stunning expanses of glazing maximise the area’s plenitude of natural light. Effective cross-ventilation is achieved using the AWS Series 400 framing with Breezeway Altair louvres

Energy efficiency, superior insulation, sound dampening, and glare reduction are delivered through the use of VIRIDIAN Smart Glass SP10, Soltech and Energytec. The high-performance, low E laminated and double-glazed glass achieves an impressive STC rating of 30Rw. The glass also retains the winter solar heat gain, resulting in the need for very little artificial heating during the colder months, and a dramatic reduction in cooling costs during summer. Combined with the use of commercial aluminium framing, the school enjoys an incredible 39% improvement in insulation, making it the ideal environment for young minds to learn and grow.
