Located in one of the Illawarra’s premier beachside suburbs and sitting on the headland of Austinmer Beach is this amazing, curved, elongated home perched on concrete columns.
The requirements for the design of this home were strict, the owners needed a home that was appropriate to raise a young family, yet could also be transformed instantaneously into a place suitable for entertaining.
The architect, Alex Symes, in conjunction with g + v architecture, has a passion for sustainable design and therefore implemented many energy efficient elements into the home, including energy efficient, large aluminium windows and doors throughout.
The home has been designed in such a way that in summer, the angle of the floating timber blocks above block out all of the solar radiation so no heat loads enter the home. However, the use of large aluminium doors allow the homeowners to open the whole house and let all the prevailing winds come through, as well as the amazing view.
Hanlon Windows assisted Alex Symes in the selection from the Elevate™ range of aluminium systems in combination with glass selections to provide the perfect solution and exceeded the levels required to pass and exceed the thermal efficiency section of BASIX.
Elevate™ high performance aluminium windows and doors were used throughout the home due to their durability, aesthetics and energy efficiency. The use of Elevate™ high performance systems in conjunction with double glazing allowed for better retention of the heat gain within the internal living areas. Abundant, full height glass bi-fold doors aid in this process, whilst adding to the feeling of connectivity between the inside and outside areas.
