Yaringa

Yaringa; the mere sound of the word evokes images of rolling oceans and the swoop of gulls. In fact, the word is actually Aboriginal for ‘near the sea’. Perched on one of the highest beach-front properties in Sawtell, New South Wales, the site enjoys spectacular views of the ocean, breaking surf and coastal headlands, and is now home to a unique dwelling that perfectly encapsulates the tidal mood of its surrounds.

The clients’ brief to Chris Morrison of Morriarchi Architecture was to create a building with the ‘WOW’ factor. In response, architect Chris Morrison – himself a keen surfer - drew inspiration from the ocean to design an architectural masterpiece incorporating generous entertaining areas, plenty of natural sunlight, clean lines, and a wave-like façade created by the contours of the roof and wall.

The monolithic shape of the building’s façade is reflective of the breaking surf which can be viewed in all its glory from the home’s upper-level balcony and pool terrace. The home also features an impressive array of luxurious inclusions, such as a state-of-the-art electronic driving range, pool, sauna, a 4 hole putting green, huge home theatre and, perhaps most delightfully, a teppanyaki bar.

To create an even stronger sense of connection with the outside world, the correct choice of windows and doors was absolutely critical. The client already had a good understanding of the superior design and performance of the AWS range of windows and doors. As a result, the fabrication experts at SGA Architectural Window Solutions were consulted to ensure the products selected catered for the architect’s ambitious design criteria. Products used include Magnum 618 Sliding Doors, Magnum 602 Fixed Windows, and 548 Series Hinged Doors. The choice of 525 Louvre Master Series frames with 152mm blades not only suits the surrounding environment and allows the ingress of natural light but also takes advantage of the sea breeze to naturally cool the house.

The result is a completely unique piece of architecture built for modern living - one which perfectly frames and interconnects with the breathtaking panoramic views of this ocean paradise.
