There is something for everyone in Bulli. The central hub of NSW’s Coal Coast, featuring waterfront homes and caravan parks, with heritage pubs and cafes on every corner.
This offered the opportunity to design a rear extension for an existing small beachside cottage. The design challenge involved building an extension that linked to the yard, bush and ocean, without disconnecting from the original cottage levels. To enjoy the breathtaking ocean views to the east, the floor levels needed to remain higher than the sloping natural ground.
In the living area, Series 400 CentreGLAZE™ Vertical Fixed Windows with Louvre Highlights above play a crucial role in showcasing the outstanding views.
They are complimented beautifully by the built in daybed directly below them, which creates a closer connection to the tree-tops.
On the other elevation, large sliding doors provide a stunning indoor–outdoor link between the living area, terrace and bushland at the rear of the property.
A new master bedroom wing sits behind the added living space and is directly accessible from the terrace through the Series 618 MAGNUM™ Sliding Doors, which provide floor-to-ceiling views of the beachfront and bushland.
This project demonstrates how turning a site’s constraints into its biggest design asset can facilitate the creation of a stylish and functional space.
